ELEVATE is an artist development programme supported by Arts Council England, which aims to support regional artists to create world-class art in the public realm.

ELEVATE returns for this year’s Manchester Day, and event Producers Walk the Plank have paired regional talent with leading artists of international standing; Tanya Raabe, Graham Massey, Sofie Layton, Ruth Jones, Candida Boyes and Naomi Parker.

ELEVATE lead artists will act as mentors to eight mid-career and emerging artists from the North West, working together to share skills and understanding through the live development of key sections of the parade and bringing the local community’s artistic concepts to life.

As well as mentoring support, ELEVATE also offers a series of masterclasses and talks from leading carnival arts figures, including a host of practical information – from hands-on making techniques through to grant application guidance. ELEVATE’s masterclass series is a partnership project by Manchester City Council and Walk the Plank. This is the first of three free masterclass seasons in outdoor arts; giving artists and community leaders the opportunity to get inspiration and skills from inter/nationally renowned parade, carnival and participatory artists.
